Palazzo Haggi — Apt. 8 · 120 sqm · floor 4 · San Vito, Trieste

Height, light, open sky — the combination Trieste rarely offers, and almost never inside a listed building. On the upper floors of number 4, Apartment 8 delivers it: 120 commercial square metres on the fourth floor rising to a private rooftop terrace that looks out over the sea and the tiled roofs of the old town. The interior is measured — entrance hall, living area with kitchenette, a spacious master bedroom, a single bedroom and two bathrooms — and the living area is built to adapt, giving up a study or a second single bedroom as needs change.

The building stands on Via Benedetto Marcello at the corner of Via Tigor, in San Vito, five minutes on foot from Piazza Cavana and seven from Piazza Unità d'Italia. It was designed by Ruggero Berlam; the neo-medieval façades — projecting string courses, columns, capitals — are protected by the Soprintendenza and back in their original colours, with the historic stone entrance hall and staircase restored. Behind the period front, the building has been completely renovated, seismically upgraded and brought up to energy standard.
